Atlantic Broadband, the company bringing competitive cable TV to Concord, is no more: It’s now called Breezeline.

The move follows recent acquisitions by the firm’s Canadian parent, Cogeco Communications, of broadband systems in Ohio, not usually considered part of the Atlantic seaboard, as well as the firm’s announcement that it will be providing fiber-optic internet service in New Hampshire.

“This new name would need to be more inclusive of the company’s expanded geographical footprint while accounting for its entire slate of products that connect customers,” the company said in a statement.

Atlantic Broadband began stringing cable and fiber on utility poles in Concord last year and is negotiating a franchise agreement with the city, putting it in competition with Comcast. This will be the first cable TV competition the city has ever seen since Continental Cablevision started the first Concord service in 1970.

Breezeline serves 34 communities in New Hampshire through a regional operations center in Rochester, which also handles Maine. It is the country’s eighth-largest cable firm with customers in 12 states and about 1,400 U.S. employees, including more than 200 in New Hampshire and Maine, plus contractors.
