Hailey Tilley is the winner of the Henniker Community Spelling Bee (grades 5-8). The seventh-grader’s winning word was PLASTRON. Runners up in the Henniker spelling bee were Benjamin Damske (seventh-grade) and Olive Ruffo (sixth-grade).
The winner of the Center Woods Elementary School Spelling Bee is first-grade student Joel Miller. His winning word was DETECT. Runner up at the CWES bee was Fallon Brunini (third-grade), followed by Connor Monnelly (second-grade). Due to COVID precautions, there could be no live audience for the bee, so it was held at school but via livestreamed so other classmates and parents could watch the event.
Hailey and Joel move on to the final local bee at the Capitol Center for the Arts on Feb. 26.
