In response to Mr. Azzi’s opinion piece (“A democracy for some, but not for all, Monitor, 2/20), it takes two to tango. After the Palestinians rejected the UN offer of land for a state in 1949 and subsequently rejected 9 more peace plan offers, there is little doubt that the Palestinians are not serious about a peaceful resolution concerning a two state solution.

However, just to make sure the Israelis got the Palestinian message to reject peace, a fair number of Palestinians voted in Hamas after the 2005 Israeli good faith transfer of Gaza to the Palestinians. Since then the Palestinians have conducted Intifada and rocket attacks against the Israeli people. All of this does not make for a happy marriage. I agree with Mr. Azzi, you must have respect for “each other.”
