Douglas G. Richards will have his exhibit “The Moon, Rocks, Trees and Me” on display through April 30 at the Baker Free Library, 509 South St., Bow.

This long time artist is primarily self- taught. He says he has always been fascinated by the phases of the moon, the great variety of rocks and minerals and the various shapes of trees when they have shed their leaves in the fall. He has transformed those interests into a unique exhibit.

Richards works primarily in watercolors and oils in various styles and has participated in many exhibits and shows throughout New England. He enjoys the creative process and observing all manner of art wherever he finds it. In addition, his eyes are always looking for a subject for his next painting. He often takes photographs or does a quick sketch to help keep it fresh in his mind and makes a note of what it was that initially caught his attention.

“My paintings are a joy to create and I describe them as a ‘listen to the quiet’ experience,” Richards said. “A painting will tell me what to do next and let me know when it is finished.”

There will be Meet and Greet each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Richards will be doing several demonstrations and offering insights into his painting during these sessions.

Exhibit hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
