The spring season continues to transition away from its infancy and closer to its end. Opening games for girls’ lacrosse happened a month ago, and championship games across all three divisions is less than a month away.
There are exciting playoff races happening, interests in top seeds for some, the continuation on getting better with every game for all. Here’s a look at area teams with three weeks left in the season, with records updated entering Wednesday.
The Crimson Tide are in the midst of a transition with first-year coach Ashley Durepo running the program. It may be difficult to learn the ins and outs of a new coach, but Concord has handled it in stride with four wins by an average of almost eight goals. It has some good tests down the stretch with a visit from Dover and Merrimack.
Coe-Brown started the season off with a commanding 16-4 win over Spaulding but has had some difficulties since then.
The Bears have gone through the gauntlet with games against Goffstown, Portsmouth and Windham. Look for opportunities to get back into the win column with Manchester Memorial-West and Spaulding again.
The Generals recently snapped a two-game losing streak with a 13-6 win at Alvirne and now are in the midst of a near-week off.
John Stark has seen both ends of the talent spectrum within the division and has five more games left in the season that includes three home games.
Sandwiched between tough losses is the Pride’s lone win of the season – an 11-4 cruiser against Spaulding. Three of MV’s seven losses were decided by single-digit goal differentials, including May 10’s 8-7 home loss to ConVal. The Pride still have six more games on the schedule, including matchups with Coe-Brown and Alvirne.
In its five wins, Pembroke’s goal total has been an impressive 14.8 goals per game. Inversely, in the losses, the Spartans have allowed 16.3 goals per game. The only numbers game that matters, however, are the five wins and three losses.
Pembroke has six more opportunities to improve its resume ahead of the first round of the playoffs, which start on June 1.
The Raiders didn’t field a team last year and, as a result, they’re playing catch-up. Belmont has six more games remaining on the schedule to earn that coveted win.
Much like Belmont, the Giants have faced a loaded front schedule, with games against Bow and Hopkinton. The back end, however, will be a busy time with nine games between Friday and May 27.
That first win is bound to happen any time within those two weeks, with games against Laconia and Milford.
The Falcons, in a fight for division supremacy, avenged their only loss of the season with a road win against Hopkinton on Monday. Bow has won eight consecutive games and has six more to go before the playoffs begin. Expect the Falcons to continue to take care of business on the field with games against Plymouth and Trinity.
Hopkinton bested Bow in the season opener but lost the recent bout. That doesn’t slow the progression or take away from the success the Hawks have had this season, and they will continue to add to that with five games left in the regular season.
Kearsarge has quietly strung along an impressive season and has won three of its last four games. In those three victories, the Cougars have outscored their opponents a combined 52-17. Kearsarge has four games left on the schedule, including an important home game against Bow.
