If you’ve seen the Concord Crew boats zipping along the Merrimack River and wondered what it’s like to row in a narrow shell with seven others holding a long oar on top of a sliding seat, this weekend is your chance to give it a try.

As part of National Learn to Row Day, the Concord Crew boathouse will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and give anyone, regardless of age, a chance to get out on the water in an 8-person boat.

The event is geared toward those who haven’t been exposed to rowing before and is totally free.

“Bring your friends, no registration required,” the organizers posted online.

The Whittemore Boathouse is located at 15 Loudon Road, in the same parking lot at the Everett Arena. Crew rowers, coaches and safety boats will be there to teach rowers the ropes. For more information, go to concordcrew.org.
