There will be some big leadership changes at Hopkinton’s elementary schools next year, as the district has hired two new principals for Maple Street School and Harold Martin School.
Carrie Sindoni will take over as the new principal at Maple Street School in July, replacing current principal Amy Doyle, who is moving on to become an assistant superintendent in the Merrimack School District. Sindoni is coming to Hopkinton from the Derry Cooperative School District where she has been the assistant principal at Grinnell and East Derry School for the past nine years. Her administrative duties included 504 case management, assessment coordination and proctoring, curriculum development, staff evaluation and behavioral management. Sindoni is also an adjunct instructor and a doctoral student at SNHU, where her research interests include exploring progressive discipline practices such as restorative justice as a way of reducing exclusionary discipline. Before Derry, Sindoni worked in the Manchester School District, first as a fourth- and fifith-grade teacher and then as a teaching assistant principal.
Patrice Brown will take over as the new principal at Harold Martin School in July, replacing current principal Bill Carozza, who is retiring after 22 years in the district. Brown is coming to Hopkinton from Newport, where she was the Director of Education and Interim Principal at Richards Elementary School. At Richards Elementary, Brown planned and executed the expansion of preschool from half-day to full-day, and worked with teachers to develop and pilot multi-age vertical learning teams to personalize student academics.
The Hopkinton School Board unanimously approved the hiring of both Brown and Sindoni at a meeting May 31.
Hopkinton Superintendent Michael Flynn said that while the contributions of longtime principals Carozza and Doyle will be missed, he is excited about the skills Sindoni and Brown will bring to the schools.
“You don’t replace the two people who are leaving easily, but the candidates we found are exciting and it’s an opportunity for both of them to come to a community like Hopkinton and bring different ideas and different styles,” Flynn said.
