I’m responding to Jim Mayotte’s letter (Monitor, 7/13) where he asks questions including: “do you dread your oil bill? Did you buy heat pumps and is your electricity now expensive?” I’m a builder. Every home I’ve built in the last decade have used heat pumps exclusively, so there is no oil bill. There is an electric bill. Without renewables the cost averages $1,500 per year, with renewables $300-$400 per year, including heat, hot water and all electricity.

He thinks only Democrats believe in these, but my clients have included Republicans as well. Everyone is interested in saving money. By the way, I don’t use complicated, mysterious methods, everything we do can be done by any good builder or remodeling contractor. Everyone’s welcome in the new world of renewable energy!
