Bridges House, the historic east Concord home that has housed civic functions for decades, is getting an addition attuned to a time of environmental concern: a pollinator garden.

“Much like the Victory Gardens of the WWI and WWII era when folks created a space at their home to serve themselves and their community in response to the challenges of their times, pollinator gardens can do the same for us now. They teach us about a path forward that is sustainable and healing for our planet,” Gov. Sununu said of the project in a statement from his office.

The brick house at 21 Mountain Road dates to 1835 and became known as the governor’s house when it was bought by Styles Bridges, governor from 1935 to 1937 and then a U.S. senator for two decades. Renovations began after 2004 when then-First Lady Susan Lynch launched an effort to restore it. The group Friends of Bridges House was created and has raised private funds for repairs and renovations.

It is open for tours. For information, contact Sununu’s office at (603) 271-2121.
