Monday will soon become a shopping day for many Concord seniors, who will be able to take a shuttle to places like supermarkets, pharmacies and downtown shops starting Aug. 15.
To go somewhere on the shuttle, riders will choose where they would like to go, request a time of day and indicate how long they will be at the store. The shuttle will pick them up at the door of their home, drop them off at the door of their requested destination and will return to pick them up at the scheduled time to bring them back home again.
Concord Area Transit is adding the shuttle due to an increase in demand for rides, to streamline service and avoid lengthy delays and wait times.
“We are so excited to offer this additional service to the citizens of Concord,” said Terri Paige, transportation director for Belknap-Merrimack’s Community Action Program. “By providing this dedicated shopping shuttle, we can allow more shopping time in the stores for our customers, while making our service more efficient. This will also free up our bus on other service days to be able to provide more rides for other activities which help keep citizens active and safe in their homes and community.”
Concord Area Transit’s senior transit service serves adults ages 60 and up every weekday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Seniors who want to shop on Wednesdays and Fridays will still be able to do so, but shopping trips will be scheduled between trips to medical appointments, and the medical appointments will take priority. The new shopping shuttle is available only to Concord residents who live in the 03301 zip code, and it will transport riders to destinations within the 03301 zip code.
