Van Mosher’s letter (Monitor, 9/30) asks us to “have the courage and conviction to vote for change” and to dump incumbent Democrats in the upcoming elections. However, he leaves us hanging with his call for change. Does this mean I should vote Republican? Libertarian? Communist? Write-ins? All of these are potential change-makers, aren’t they? Why not just come out and declare whom he wants us to vote for. I also think Hassan, Kuster and Pappas would be surprised to find they’re billionaires, as Mr. Mosher contends. Clearly they have financial support for their campaigns, but that doesn’t make them billionaires. Mr. Mosher is merely parroting all those “sky is falling” anti-Democrat ads that repeatedly say things like candidate X votes 97% of the time with Biden.
Let’s be clear: Biden doesn’t vote, so none of the candidates can vote like he does. Indeed, those candidates vote on a host of minor bills the president probably has no knowledge of. In fact, much of the problem is Republicans who block vote against almost any bill of significance, leaving Democrats unable to get any crucial bills passed at all. Mr. Mosher rightly points out the problems facing our country, but there’s plenty of blame to go around, especially with congressional Republicans opposing bills on no other grounds than that they were proposed by Democrats. For the record, I won’t be voting Republican, Libertarian, Communist or write-in.
