■The garden club’s annual Pajama & Book Drive is in progress and will run through Nov. 15. All donations are distributed to local charities and family shelters. ■The 2022 Congregational Church Wreath Sale has started. A 22-inch decorated balsam is $32, an undecorated 22-inch balsam is $17, and a 48-inch is $75. Please place your order by Nov. 21. ■Regular firearms (rifle) hunting season began locally on Nov. 9 and runs through Dec. 4. Hunting is allowed in Dunbarton’s conservation areas. Those who will be sharing the woods with hunters are advised to wear blaze orange or another highly visible color and lots of it to make yourself stand out. Do not wear tan or white. If you are out with your dog, make sure it is highly visible too.

■Nov. 23 is a Teacher Professional Day, no school. Town offices and schools will be closed for Thanksgiving on Nov. 24 and 25.

■The Dunbarton Historical Society needs $100,000 to accomplish the remaining work to complete the Hugh Jameson Cape built in Dunbarton circa 1758. The funds will be used to construct a climate-controlled space to safely preserve and display the town’s historic papers and cloth collections. The workforce will be primarily volunteers. This is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization, so your donation to the Jameson Cape Fund is tax-deductible. ■Contoocook Carry Volunteer Day has been changed to Nov. 19, starting at 9 a.m. at the Sean Powers Wood Bank (located at the Hopkinton Transfer Station).

While late fall is a great time to hike, remember that hunting season has begun and all walkers should consider wearing bright colors when on the trails. Town Forests where hunting is not allowed includes Kimball Lake, Hawthorn Forest, Brockway Preserve, and the Beyer property next to Smith Pond Bog.
