Every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day is observed for those who have experienced suicide loss. On that day, they come together at different community events to share their experiences and find healing.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is hosting this year’s event on Nov. 19 across five locations in New Hampshire, to provide support for those who have lost their loved ones to suicide.
More than 200 New Hampshire residents died by suicide in 2020, according to a CDC report, making suicide the 9th leading cause of death in the state.
This year, the New Hampshire Chapter of the AFSP will host events in Nashua, Concord, Dover, Keene and Hooksett.
Survivors of suicide loss as well as AFSP New Hampshire Chapter members will be present at the event. Participants who have not experienced a loss are welcome.
The AFSP is a nonprofit health organization based in New York City that works to prevent suicide and save lives by educating the public, empowering communities, and offering assistance to those who are affected by suicide. There is an AFSP local chapter in every one of the 50 states, including Puerto Rico.
