Firefighters quickly put a fire at a home in Chichester Sunday morning, which was likely started by the woodstove.

Fire and rescue from Pittsfield and Chichester were called to 17 Pleasant St. at 11:05 a.m. for reports of a fire that originated behind the stove, said Chichester Fire Chief Alan Quimby.

Crews quickly knocked down the fire, which had burned through the roof. The family, including their dog, were safely evacuated from the home without injury. The cause of the fire was ruled an accident.

The home is uninhabitable and Red Cross is helping the family find lodging, Quimby said.

The home is owned by Deann and Joseph Berthiaume, according to town records.

Chichester Fire Department was assisted by Loudon, Epsom, Concord, Northwood, Pembroke and Strafford fire departments.
