It’s officially December, and we have the first snowstorm of the season under our belts. We’re steadily hurtling towards the end of the year now, embracing the dark, the cold and all of the accompanying holiday magic.

It’s the coziest season, the perfect time to pick up a new hobby or return to one you haven’t had time for recently. If you’re looking for recommendations, I can tell you that I’ve begun knitting again and have also recently learned to make bread. Both bring loads of joy! I also highly recommend hunkering down with a good book and a mug of something warm. You won’t regret it, I swear.

Looking at the week ahead, I hope you’ll catch up on sleep ahead of time, because you should plan for a late evening on Friday. How late? Midnight, to be precise.

Bring your holiday shopping list and your friends or family downtown with you for InTown Concord’s annual Midnight Merriment. From 5 p.m. to 12 a.m., stores will stay open just for your enjoyment. Carolers and other musicians will perform at various downtown spots, and there will be a s’mores station, free hot cocoa, food trucks, a Santa photo-op and more.

It’s almost like a Cinderella story: Midnight Merriment’s magic transforms Concord into a holiday wonderland. At midnight, the carriage will turn back into a pumpkin and all the stores will close at their usual times again until next year. So savor every second of this fun-filled evening for all.

If you’re looking for an indoor activity to escape the cold, stroll over to Red River Theatres for A Very Red River Holiday Movie Series. This weekend, they’re showing “Pride and Prejudice” on Saturday at 10 a.m. and “White Christmas” on Sunday at 10 a.m. Ticket information can be found at https://redrivertheatres.org/series/a-very-red-river-holiday-movie-series/.

Head to Hopkinton for Starry Starry Weekend, a weekend of community-oriented events and sales. From a cookie walk and a farmers market to an artisan fair and a Santa meet-and-greet, there are activities for all to enjoy. For more information on the Friday through Sunday celebration, visit https://www.discovertooky.com/starrystarryweekend.

Concord Dance Academy is holding its Holiday Spectacular on Saturday and Sunday at the Concord City Auditorium. Enjoy the performance while supporting the community, as proceeds from the bake sale, the holiday raffle and the Santa photos allow the school to donate to different organizations such as St. Paul’s Kitchen and Toys for Tots. The Saturday performances will be at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. and the Sunday performance will be at 1 p.m. For ticket information, visit https://www.etix.com/ticket/o/9322/ConcordDanceAcademyNH.

As always, enjoy the weekend!
