What does free mean?
It seems the carpetbagger so-called Free Staters are at it again. It isn’t enough that they are decimating “free” public education or advocating the killing of New Hampshire citizens for the audacity of “‘freely” proposing a way to help lighten our oppressive local school tax burden. Now they want to make it incredibly difficult to even contemplate free thinking and discussion.
They are proposing an “…amendment resolution [that] changes the NH Constitution to require a super-majority of two-thirds in the House and Senate to pass any ‘new tax on personal income, earned or unearned, sales or use, capital gains, inheritance, estate, or death, or any similar broad-based tax scheme….’” They’re assuming they will keep control of both houses and the support of the current governor guaranteeing their myopic never tax ideology.
One of the bedrock concepts of a democracy is the capacity of its citizens having access to “free” public education. Another is the ability to engage in “free” and constructive dialog without fear or death threats. It seems the Free Staters would rather ensure that no such “free” discussion be possible. This twisted version of what being ‘”free” is right out of Orwell (thank your “free” public education if you understand the reference). As we move closer to the destruction of our democracy, I wholeheartedly support these Free Staters to be “free” to leave New Hampshire, go back where they came from and let us return to helping each other and living our good lives.
