Clarksville, NH – Everett “Butch” R. Hoyt, Jr., 81, of Clarksville, New Hampshire, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon after a battle with cancer.
Butch was born in Concord, New Hampshire, on November 7, 1944, and grew up in Penacook with his parents, Alice (Thompson) Hoyt and Everett R. Hoyt, Sr., and his sister, Judy (Hoyt) Courser. He graduated from Penacook High School, where he was an active athlete, playing baseball, basketball, and golf.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Butch developed a lifelong passion for golf. He was a member of Beaver Meadow Golf Course and Concord Country Club, where he had a strong presence and was known as an elite player and a true gentleman. He competed in ten New Hampshire State Amateur tournaments, advancing to the semifinals in 1974, and won the Beaver Meadow Club Championship in 1978 and 1980. Over the years, he enjoyed many friendly competitions with his son, Scott, and the two teamed up in many events over the years.
Butch enjoyed watching women’s basketball with his daughter, Wendy, and was a devoted fan of the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team, rarely missing a game.
Butch was a skilled machinist and worked for Watts Regulator (Webster Valve) for 40 years before retiring and moving to Clarksville, New Hampshire.
A self-taught carpenter, Butch built two camps and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with family and friends. His “camp” was a special place where his children and grandchildren enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and many outdoor activities for the first time. On his 30-acre property, he built a 270-yard golf hole known as the “19th Hole.”
In his later years, Butch formed a close and meaningful friendship with his neighbor, Bruce. They shared many common interests and were always there for each other.
Butch is survived by his sister, Judy (Hoyt) Courser of Warner, NH; his brother, Jim Hoyt of Salisbury, NH; his daughter, Wendy L. Heath and her husband, Brian W. Heath, of Boscawen, NH; his son, Scott A. Hoyt and his wife, Nicole E. Hoyt, of Boscawen, NH; and his stepchildren, Michelle Hollins Ham and Jamie Hollins.
Butch had a deep love for his grandchildren, and spending time with them was one of his greatest joys. He was a loving grandfather to William E. Hoyt and his wife, Cailey; Chantel E. Hoyt; Connor S. Heath; Isabel K. Houghton and her husband, Tom; Jillian M. Heath; and Edward S. Hoyt, and he cherished every moment with them.
