Sutton, NH – Robert Norman Dion, 82, of North Sutton, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, with his beloved wife, Margaret "Peggy" (Rondeau) Dion, by his side. Born on October 5, 1943, Robert lived a life grounded in love of family, dedication to his work, and quiet service to others. He shared a remarkable marriage with Peggy since 1961 and was a devoted father to Sondra (Ernest) Brake, Robert Dion, Dawn (Lloyd) Rainey, Shannan (Peter) Tawney, Harmony (Jeff) Till, Elisha (Marshall) Burns, and Jennifer Barker (Scott Lacrosse). He was a proud grandfather to 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and is also survived by his sister, Theresa Cote, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Robert served honorably in the United States Air Force as an airplane mechanic. He went on to build a long career in the sawmill industry, including managing Kearsarge Sawmill in Warner, NH, and working with Hancock Lumber in Maine. In later years, he continued working with Loomis and Brinks Armored Services. He also gave his time to the Concord Jaycees and Concord Lions Club. Known for his warm smile, kind eyes, and love of all things cowboy, Robert found the greatest joy in his family. Even in his final days, he spoke proudly of them, sharing stories that reflected the deep love he carried throughout his life. His family will always remember his strength, his steady presence, his playful train whistle, and his enduring smile.
A private graveside service will be held at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), PO Box 4198, Concord, NH 03302-4198. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Sutton Fire and Rescue Department, the New London Hospital Paramedic Team, the New Hampshire State Police, and the Manchester VA Medical Center for their care and compassion. In the quiet way he lived-steadfast, kind, and devoted-Robert leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to guide and comfort those who knew him.
