Senators, vote NO on the Farm Bill!
It’s spring, time to envision the world anew. For me, that means digging deeper to create a world where everyone is respected and has adequate food, medical care and housing. Everyone.
So, what was the U.S. House thinking when it passed a Farm Bill that fails to support families facing hunger?
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is one of the most powerful tools for fighting hunger in the United States. The House vote would shift a significant portion of the cost of SNAP food benefits from the federal government to the states, breaking a 50-year commitment to giving every individual, in every community, access to SNAP, helping put enough food on the table.
Already, in the last year, more than 3 million people have lost access to SNAP benefits, and millions more will join them when “cost-shifting” in the Great Big Beautiful Bill forces states to take SNAP costs. As it is, New Hampshire is revenue-strapped. How will it serve the nearly 76,000 people, including 25,000 children, 11,000 seniors, veterans, persons with disabilities and families without this stable, life-enhancing national program?
The Senate must do better. Please join me in calling on our senators Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen to reject any Farm Bill that does not give every state the means to protect families against these devastating cuts. Thank you.
