Legislature report card
As the school year comes to an end and final report cards are going home, it’s time for a report card for the Republican controlled Legislature and Governor Ayotte. Making headlines and “clickbait topics” seem to be the priority of this collective group, instead of focusing on issues that could really impact and solve problems for Granite Staters, especially children. Problems like food insecurity, homelessness and public education funding.
New Hampshire is ranked as the seventh wealthiest state in terms of per capita income, yet approximately 36,000 children face food insecurity on a daily basis. On any given day, there are approximately 2,500 unhoused people in New Hampshire, a significant number of this population are children. And we continue to be dead last in public education funding, ranking 50th out of 50 states. These glaring statistics and issues feel all but ignored.
Looking specifically at public education, the priorities of this legislature have been open carry on our college campuses, transgender student bathroom use and Educational Freedom Accounts, which basically allows “Peter to rob Paul,” and only further decreases resources for public school students and educators and widens that gap in funding schools fairly for all students.
For their misguided efforts, I give the Governor and the Republican Legislators an overall grade of F.
