Final insults of this session

So, we are about to suffer the final insults of the legislature and administration of this biennium. Thursday, the Free State-dominated House and Senate passed bills that: mandate the sale of the Youth Development Center and place the proceeds into the general fund, rather than using the money to compensate the many victims who suffered abuse at that facility (SB 481); another method to defund public education, a last-minute, not well thought-out school tax cap, which will likely generate more litigation (HB 1300); more attempts to hassle elections — more work for election officials (HB 317) and more audits of results, continuing the attempts to undermine trust in our elections (HB 1062); more additions to parental rights (HB 1376); and after over 10 years of conservative budgets that have cut business taxes which have majorly impacted our property taxes, yet another cut to the Business Enterprise Tax (HB 155) — watch out, this will cost us all more.

These still need the governor’s signature, but so far she has seemed more than willing to endorse the Free Stater’s agenda. Remember this in November.
