The police officer who shot a man in Milan last month was identified as Jason Silva, according to the attorney general’s office.

Silva, a corporal who has worked at the Berlin Police Department for five years, discharged his firearm at 37-year-old Zachary Gagne on May 21 while responding to a resident’s call requesting that police remove an adult male from their home.

Gagne was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Little other information has been released to the public.

The attorney general’s office investigates every use of deadly force by law enforcement and almost always rules that they are legally justified in their actions.

Five people have been shot by police in New Hampshire this year, including in Ashland, Milton, Northfield and Raymond.
