Deerfield , NH – Catherine “Cathy” Woods, 75, of Deerfield, passed away peacefully at Concord Hospital on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
Born on October 3, 1950, in Norfolk, Virginia, Cathy was the daughter of James and Theresa (Costa) Welby. Raised in a military family, she spent much of her childhood in Newport, Rhode Island, and throughout the East Coast. She developed a lifelong love of both the ocean and the mountains, finding beauty and peace in God’s creation.
Cathy dedicated many years of her career to the NH Department of Health and Human Services, where she worked as a claims processor. She was known for her strong work ethic, kindness, and willingness to help others.
A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Cathy was a devoted member of Grace Capital Church in Pembroke. She faithfully served her church family in many capacities, including as a greeter and usher. A true prayer warrior, Cathy continually lifted others in prayer and was always ready to offer encouragement, support, and compassion to anyone in need.
In addition to her parents, Cathy was predeceased by her brother, James “Jimmy” Welby.
Members of her family include her husband, Leo Preston; daughters, Michelle Woods, Erin Woods and Lori Woods; grandchildren, Jordan and Dana Robinson, Alex Claremont, Amelia DeWolfe, Brittany and Emily Davison; brother, Ron Welby and sisters, Dianne Carpenter and Donna Bellandi.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Grace Capital Church, 542 Pembroke Street, Pembroke, on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 11:00AM.
