Who comes after Trump?
Donald Trump will not be eligible to seek another term after his current presidency. Yet much of the Democratic Party’s message continues to focus on opposing him rather than explaining what the party would do next.
Voters deserve more than warnings about one political figure who is ineligible. They deserve practical proposals addressing the economy, immigration, public safety, health care and the other issues affecting their daily lives. Constantly returning to Trump suggests that voters cannot evaluate candidates and policies for themselves.
Republicans have offered an agenda and can point to accomplishments, although no party or administration is perfect. Democrats should make their own case for the future, and Republicans should remain open to constructive ideas that improve their policies.
The next election should be a contest between competing plans — not another referendum on someone who is ineligible.
