What five qualities are necessary for a county attorney

1. Experience. The County Attorney must have experience prosecuting thousands of felony cases. Working for five different county attorneys across three different counties taught me that the most effective could inspire and lead their staff because they understood the work.

2. Ethics. She must have strong moral convictions while making life-changing decisions for our community.

3. Fortitude. She must be brave enough to lead an office that fights for justice by working with police, explaining difficult decisions to the public, playing hardball with defense lawyers and standing up to lenient judges.

4. Compassion. She must know how child protection laws work, and don’t work, to protect the most vulnerable in our community.

5. Community Connection. The County Attorney must know and trust her community, and the community must know and trust her back. She should know a hot summer day at Short Falls in Epsom, the scent of the flowers in the cool air at Tarbin Gardens in Franklin, the sweet bite of cider donuts off the Chichester cutoff, and the sound of laughter that booms through the Scenic Theater in Pittsfield.

That’s my Merrimack County, and it would be my honor to give back to the community that raised me by serving as our County Attorney. You can find out more at my website at rogersforcountyattorney.com. I hope to earn your vote on Sept. 8.
