It’s been nearly four months since Jacqueline McCarey was last seen around Depot Street in Pittsfield.
The 43-year-old woman was reported missing on Thursday, but no one has heard from her since May 11.
Police Chief Joseph Collins said a family member called in the report. He described McCarey as a private person who tended to keep to herself and said that her birthday happened recently.
“She normally would reach out to her family around that time to do things to celebrate her birthday, and I think that’s what kind of raised the alarm,” he said.
According to information from the police department, McCarey is 4’8“ tall, weighs around 110 pounds and has hazel eyes and brown hair.
“She is disabled and uses a walker or two canes that attach to her arms,” the department said in a statement. “Jacqueline also has a prosthetic leg and struggles to walk. She has numerous tattoos on her arms, shoulders, and back.”
Collins said the department is worried about her health and well-being.
“The concern is that she doesn’t really have a means of traveling anywhere, and she’s disabled so she can’t walk long distances and she doesn’t have a vehicle,” he said.
McCarey has been in Pittsfield for at least the eight years Collins has been there. He said he doesn’t know when she first moved to town. In the past few years, she has lived in several different residences, “all within a couple blocks of downtown,” per Collins.
“She’s always been right within this area,” he added.
The police department has been actively investigating McCarey’s whereabouts since they first learned of her disappearance.
“We searched the property that she was staying at and some of the surrounding areas where she used to hang out, but other than that we don’t have a lot of leads of where she could be at this time,” said Collins.
He’s hoping that by spreading the word, people who knew McCarey or saw her around might have leads for the department.
“If anyone remembers talking to her, seeing her, if they know even another friend of hers that we might talk to that we haven’t — basically any connection to her or any information that anyone has that has anything do with her in the last six months —we’d love to talk to anyone who knows anything or has any idea of who she might be with, who she hangs out with,” he said.
