Matthew Higgins

Tilton, NH – Irish born scholar, Matthew Higgins, 88 of Concord, NH, died August 17, 2026 in Tilton, NH. He was a poet, a published author of books and crossword puzzles circulated in newspapers nationwide.

After serving in the US Navy, he graduated from the University of Connecticut and went on to acquire a Master of Arts degree from Trinity College in Hartford, a Master of Library Science from University of Rhode Island, and a Doctorate in Library Administration from Simmons College in Boston.

Dr Higgins was the editor of Granite State Library and contributed various items to other library publications. He was a member of the American Library Association, the New England Library Association, the New England and New Hampshire archivists groups, and the Committee to Preserve the Documentary Heritage of New Hampshire.

After retirement, Dr Higgins made annual trips to Cambridge, England taking courses to pursue his passion for life long learning. He is survived by his sisters, Ellen Sullivan and Pauline Baldwin of Tallahassee, FL and many nieces and nephews.
