My issue with Chris Pappas
I am appalled and revolted by Israel’s treatment of the Palestinian people in Gaza and West Bank. Despite the “cease fire,” Israel continues to shell the Gaza Palestinians. West Bank settlers continue to shoot and throw stones at Palestinians tending their olive groves. Settlers enter and occupy the dwellings of Palestinians who step away from their homes. All the while, the Israeli army stands by and does nothing, giving tacit support to the settlers. The settlers have not been apprehended or prosecuted. Imagine how the Israelis would feel if someone did these horrible things to them.
Given the Israeli government’s attitude toward inhumane treatment of the Palestinians and now also the Lebanese people, I do not want my (our) tax dollars and munitions going to the state of Israel. I approached Chris Pappas about his stand on this issue. He gave me a outdated, standard response about a two-state solution and the need for more negotiations. Israel clearly does not want a two-state solution and negotiations have been dead for a long time. The only thing Israel understands is power, and the power of the purse is the biggest leverage the United States has. We should use this power to force change in Israel.
Why hasn’t Pappas spoken out about Israel’s human rights violations? Do you think he deserves your vote in the primary on Tuesday?
