Carl Olson

Mobile, AL – Carl Olson, 84, of Mobile, Alabama passed away August 5, 2026 due to heart failure. Carl lived a life defined by his military service, adventures, and a quiet helping spirit that touched those who knew him well. Carl enlisted in the United States Navy in 1959, at 17 years old, answering an early call to serve his country. In 1964, he joined the United States Coast Guard where he built a distinguished career spanning 20 years attaining the rank of warrant officer as he rotated from Hawaii, Kodiak, Alaska, and New Orleans. His service was highlighted by a Presidential Commendation for his role in the rescue of the cruise ship Princendom.

Carl’s last wish was to return to Kodiak, Alaska where he spent years boating and salmon fishing, his true passion.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Myra Underwood, son, Jon Olson, Carl Jr, and grandchildren, Chandler, Jon, and Maddie. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Clara Olson, brother, Jimmy Olson, and son, Scott Olson, and his daughter Sybil Elizabeth Olson.

A military funeral is planned where his ashes will be interred in New Hampshire State Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen, New Hampshire, September 18th at 1 o’clock. Cemetery requests everyone be there 30 mins prior to.
