Two reasons to vote against Sununu

Two things to consider before returning John Sununu to the Senate.

First, he’s pledged to vote to continue the Republican tax cuts of 2017 and 2025 even though the U.S. national debt, now more than $40 trillion, exceeds the total value of our economy. Interest payments on that debt are now the third largest federal expense, more than national defense and are exceeded only by the budgets for Medicare and Social Security.

Economists ranging from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office to the International Monetary Fund have deemed the U.S. debt spiral “unsustainable” and called for raising taxes and cutting spending to rescue our country from eventual financial collapse.

Sununu’s solution is to make sure the treasury remains disastrously underfunded.

Second, Donald Trump is likely to appoint at least one more Supreme Court justice during his term. If past is prologue, he’ll choose a clone of Alito or Thomas, someone who believes the presidency is all-powerful and exists outside the law.

As a junior back-bencher, Sununu would be unlikely to defy Trump and his party’s bosses and vote to deny another MAGA ally an additional vote on the court. If you’re a fan of the current court, vote Sununu.

A University of New Hampshire Survey Center poll last month found Trump with a 32% approval in our state and 67% disapproval. Why send someone to the Senate whose votes will support the notions of the least popular president in our lifetimes?
