A pink procession took over Memorial Field and the surrounding Concord streets on Sunday for the American Cancer Society’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

Proceeds from the walk go toward supporting breast cancer research and patient care.

The numbers are staggering: About one in every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. The American Cancer Society estimates over 42,000 women will die of breast cancer in 2026 alone. The disease is the most common cancer facing women in the United States, except for skin cancer.

Still, despite the devastation that the disease can wreak on people’s lives, Making Strides creates a celebratory atmosphere, rooted in solidarity, for survivors and loved ones alike. Each year, it’s a chance to come together in bright pink clothing and walk together in community.
