A vote for Giffard and Boucher

South Concord is lucky to have two fine candidates to support for public office Tuesday. We all like to see young talent offer to serve. Nate Giffard backs that up with solid credentials— Saint Paul’s, Dartmouth, small business, deep roots here and a positive and inclusive approach that is refreshing in our part of town. He will be a first rate state representative.

I have served on three elected school boards for rural, suburban and urban districts. I am acutely aware of the complexities and challenges this work involves. Were I to cite one essential board quality it would be that people serve for the right reasons. By this standard Liz Boucher is by far the right choice for the nonpartisan school board. She brings professional attainments, work as an engaged parent and balance of personal opinion with grasp of the board’s collective institutional responsibilities.

Her opponent is an affable retired manager of a coffee shop downtown, was a state rep 20 years ago and now presents as a partisan politician who never met a cheap shot he didn’t like. Consider his false assertion that relations between city Council and school board “stink.”This better describes the antics of a small minority within council. His legislative remedies for vexatious traffic patterns on a couple of streets are the ultimate in special interest pandering, and comical as prospective laws or policy. Do we need this on the school board?

We faced a similar choice last year. We chose well. Let’s do so again.
