Step up for students and taxpayers

Property taxes in Epsom and throughout New Hampshire are hurting the taxpayers who live from paycheck to paycheck. The largest item on that property tax bill is the cost of education, in part because New Hampshire relies on local property taxes for those costs, unlike the other states. Our Republican-dominated legislature likes it that way.

Property taxes are regressive and inequitable. This disparity is exaggerated if you live in a “property-poor” town. Why should homeowners in property-poor towns have to pay a higher tax-rate than those in towns with more property? Your state legislature can fix this by an increase in state-level educational adequacy support.

Citizens in Epsom, Allenstown, Hooksett, and Dumbarton should vote for Phil Walker and Harold Kozlowski (floterial seats representing all four towns) and Glenn Horner (Epsom) for the state legislature on Nov. 3 because they support legislation to fix this funding system and lower your local property taxes. Check your local candidates and vote for those who will vote for fairness in taxation and support our students.
