Vote for Maggie Goodlander
There’s a particular kind of courage that shows up in just the right time and way, arising when someone feels called to a particular action for the purpose of serving a greater good. I support Maggie Goodlander because she displayed such courage when, in November 2025, she and five other Democratic lawmakers dared to address U.S. service members reminding them of their duty to refuse illegal orders. Not easy. And, as predicted, Trump responded by calling the lawmakers “traitors” and that their actions were “punishable by death.” Still, Maggie Goodlander didn’t back down. She condemned the administration’s actions as a dangerous attempt to intimidate and silence them, lawmakers just doing their job.
What feels most noteworthy to me is that the address, first and foremost, called for service members to remember their oath to protect and defend the Constitution. That such a reminder would even be necessary to say is very telling of where we are as a country right now. But Maggie Goodlander was one who knew it needed to be said, publicly and clearly, regardless of the consequences. Is this not the core responsibility of a public official?
The last line in the address was, “Don’t give up the ship.” Let’s dare to follow Maggie Goodlander’s example and have the courage to speak up and show up in ways that serve each other, our beloved nation, and the document that defines us all: the U.S. Constitution.
