Decency won, hope restored
At the last “No Kings” protest in Concord, my hand-made sign said “Vote Like A Brazilian.” I was buoyed up by the recent election in Brazil that saw their their authoritarian leader rejected.
But while I knew that thousands of Americans across the U.S. were gathering in protest on this October afternoon, I confess I held only a very slim hope that we would be successful in turning us away from the slide toward fascism, and toward a well functioning democracy. Well! Did I ever underestimate the American public.
My heart sings in gratitude to everyone who worked so hard to make win possible, from the candidates to the election workers, the people who donated money, those who wrote letters to the editor, to everyone who voted for democracy. You have given me hope.
