A man wanted for fleeing police in Belmont more than two weeks ago was arrested Monday afternoon in Tilton.

Hayden Moon, 24, of Gilmanton is facing numerous charges in Belknap County stemming from the incident in Belmont on Oct. 28 and his arrest in Tilton on Monday.

Belmont police first attempted to arrest Moon on an electronic bench warrant in the early morning hours of Oct. 28. Officer Patrick Riley stopped the 2007 Toyota Camry driven by Moon on South Road at about 1:30 a.m.

But in his efforts to elude police, Moon dragged Riley with the vehicle, said Belknap County Attorney Melissa Countway Guldbrandsen. Riley, who suffered minor injuries, fired his duty weapon in an effort to stop Moon’s escape but was unsuccessful, she said.

Moon was not injured in the incident and remained on the run for 17 days until his arrest Monday. He was identified during that time as a wanted fugitive by the U.S. Marshals.

Tilton police Officer Elizabeth Murray was on patrol in the area of Laconia Road at about 12:30 p.m. when she observed a 2001 Saturn “S” Series sedan traveling east with defective equipment. Murray stopped the vehicle, which was transporting four people, including Moon, according to Tilton Police Chief Robert Cormier.

Moon, who had no identification on him, told police he was Tyler Wilkins and provided them with a false date of birth, Cormier said.

At the time of his arrest, Moon was found in possession of methamphetamine and some credit cards reported stolen from Concord, police said.

Tilton police have charged Moon with possession of a controlled drug, receiving stolen property and giving a false name to a police officer. He was also arrested on a warrant issued by Belmont police, charging him with reckless conduct and resisting arrest.

Following his arrest, Moon was held for lack of cash bail at the Belknap County jail in Laconia. He was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in district courts in Laconia and Franklin.
