Jack Shields pulled his Honda Ridgeline onto Concord’s City Plaza to deliver his First Amendment display Saturday morning.
With a little help from his friends at the Freedom From Religion Foundation, Shields unloaded a 6-foot-tall rendition of the Founding Fathers along with the Statue of Liberty looking down at a manger containing the Bill of Rights. The display is located just to the left of the city’s nativity scene near the arch on City Plaza.
Shields emphasized that the First Amendment does not champion one religion over another, and former state representative Chuck Townsend of Canaan echoed that during the display’s unveiling.
“We all have different ways of thinking, different ways of believing, and we ought to be able to accept all of them equally and celebrate all of them,” Townsend said.
The display will remain up throughout December.
