Fire officials have identified the man who died in Sunday’s three-alarm house fire in Webster as Steven Youngs.

Youngs, 61, of Webster died from smoke inhalation, and his death has been ruled accidental, according to an autopsy performed Monday by the state medical examiner’s office.

Youngs was one of nine people in the home at 401 Little Hill Road early Sunday morning when the fire broke out, according to the state fire marshal’s office. Eight of them escaped to safety.

The Webster Fire Department responded to the fire at approximately 2:45 a.m. Someone inside the home discovered the fire and alerted the other residents to it, according to reports.

State fire investigator Shana Clark said Monday afternoon that officials were unable to determine the origin and cause of the fire due to the extensive damage it caused.

The fire spread to a barn as well as several vehicles on the property.

Clark said there were smoke alarms in the home, but she could not comment on whether they alerted those inside to the blaze.

Several area fire departments assisted Webster, including Concord. The city sent six firefighters to the scene to help with fire supression efforts, according to Concord Fire Chief Dan Andrus. Andrus said crews remained in Webster until a little after 7 a.m.
