Over 50 runners participated in Benjamin Franklin Academy’s first 5K race in Loudon on Oct. 25. Many participants and spectators were members of the charter school or were friends and family.
The overall winner of the event, Cody Murphy from Manchester, achieved a time of 18 minutes and 57 seconds. Two Academy students, Sawyer Rokeh and Eliza Vaters, won the men’s and women’s under 18 categories.
Benjamin Franklin Academy started a run club in the fall and wanted to raise money for the school, since it receives less state funding than surrounding public schools. Between registrations, sponsors, donation and a yard sale on the property, the event raised about $7,200.
