Trust your eyes

It’s election season again and I bet most people, like me, are tired of it. I force myself to pay attention because I know that at the local level candidates can win or lose by just a few votes. Our vote has consequences.

If you’re happy with our current economy, thank a Republican. They have been in power in Concord for the past 10 years.

Thank Republicans for the high price of groceries and gas, housing and healthcare. Thank Republicans in Concord for our high property taxes.

My mailbox is crammed with mailings. Postcards from Democrats are about their vision for a better future. Postcards from Republicans are attacks on Democrats.

That’s because Republicans can’t tell us they’ve made our lives better. They can’t campaign on what they’ve accomplished, so they fall back on lies against their opponents. It reminds me of the saying: Half of what they say is untrue, the other half’s a lie.

There should be a law against slander and lies. What we can do is trust our instincts. A nasty mailer, an outrageous claim against an opponent is a reflection on the sender.

If you’re not happy with our current situation, don’t send the same old Republicans back to Concord.

Elect Democrats on Nov. 3! It’s time for change.
