As a person whose name and immigrant roots are in Central Asia, it is more than shameful that in a Letter to the Editor to this paper, Walter Carlson accused me of being a member of the “American Taliban,” insinuating that I am a terrorist for holding a policy position with which he may not agree (Monitor, 10/2). According to Pew Research, 71% of Americans agree with a middle position in which abortion is legal in some cases and illegal in some cases.

While it was somewhat surprising that the Concord Monitor published such a dog whistle and potentially race-based attack, Mr. Carlson went further to slander millions of people of faith as “religious wackos.” I thank Mr. Carlson for reminding me why I am a member of a party that strongly believes in liberty, freedom of speech, and freedom of religion, in contrast to his version of the intolerant left.
