City ‘B’ tennis tourney

Four opening-round singles matches in the Concord City ‘B’ tennis tournament were held on Monday at Bow Brook Club. Govinda Garung beat Andrew Yvars, 6-2, 6-1, Pete Samuelson bested Binit Shah, 7-6 (7-5), 6-0, and Riz Bhattarai defeated Matt Lamy, 6-2, 6-2. Rikash Garung survived a two-hour, three-set match over Dinesh Garung, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. In Tuesday’s singles action, Mike Lewis takes on Riz Bhattarai at 4:30 p.m., Warren Campbell plays Manish Humagai at 6 p.m., Rikash Garung plays Nick Bayer at 4:30 p.m. and Indra Garung takes on Madhab Garung at 6 p.m. In doubles action, Peter Russo and Jim Normandin play Dinesh Garung and Govinda Garung at 7 p.m.


Concord Capitols non-contact conditioning clinics for all ages will be held at Martin Field on Iron Works Road on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7 p.m. Registration is required to participate and the Capitols are still accepting new/returning players for the fall season. Little Strikers soccer skills clinics will be held at FieldHouse Sports Indoor Sports Facility in Bow starting Sept. 7. The five-week session runs on Saturday mornings and Tuesday afternoons for ages 3-6. Clinics are instructional, interactive and fun. University of New Hampshire women’s soccer team fall ID clinic will be held on Sept. 7 at Wildcat Stadium for female players entering grades 9-12 this year. Players will train and play under the direction of UNH coaches and players. Both field player and goalkeeper-specific training is provided. Coed Field Hockey Skills Clinics are being offered at FieldHouse Sports in Bow. Beginners are encouraged. Next sessions begin Sept. 12 and Oct. 17 for grades K-2 and Oct. 17 for grades 3-6. Clinics run on Thursday afternoons in five-week sessions and are coached by Rony Jacober, director of Summit Field Hockey and assistant coach at New England College. Cost is $65. Concord Crew fall season registration is open at concordcrew.org until Friday. No experience needed. Any middle school or high school student-athletes from the greater Concord area and beyond are welcome to join. The team rows from its Whittemore Boathouse in a fleet of top notch racing shells with an experienced coaching staff. The fall season runs from mid-August through October.

Spartans AAU fall basketball tryouts will be held starting Saturday at the Sportszone in Derry. Tryouts for boys and girls in grades 3-6 will be from 2:30-3:30 p.m., boys and girls in grades 7-8 will be from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and tryouts for all high school players will be from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Tryouts will continue on Aug. 29 and Sept. 7. Cap City basketball is holding tryouts for its fall AAU season for boys and girls in grades 3-12 at Bishop Brady High School in Concord on Saturday and Sept. 8. There will be multiple teams for each age group based on skill level. The season runs from Sept. 16 through Oct. 27. The cost to tryout is $20 (returning spring AUU players tryout for free with a code) and the total cost for the program is $375-500. Concord Parks and Recreation fall soccer league registration is underway. The department offers leagues for children as young as 4 years old and up to sixth grade. MV Blue Storm fall football league is open for registrations. Blue Storm offers two tackle teams, as well as a flag football team and participates in the New Hampshire Youth Football & Spirit Conference. The season begins the first week of August. Indoor soccer leagues at FieldHouse Sports in Bow are accepting team and individual signups for the fall indoor soccer session. Men 18+, Women 25+, Men 30+ and Adult Coed leagues are offered. New England Wolves U16 full-season hockey team, coached by former NCAA hockey player Greg Lenti, will include 2-3 practices on ice per week, skill sessions all fall with the Wolves EHL Jr. coaches and director of player development Tim Kunes, competition in the NEPHL and United Tier 1 League, use of Wolves video room and JR Facilities, two workouts a week (minimum) and use of synthetic ice at Wolves training center (465 Province Rd. in Laconia). Concord Cannons Fall Baseball league is now accepting registrations for individual players and full teams looking to play this fall. The league consist of three divisions 12U, middle school and high school. Teams will play 14 games and practice weekly at Concord Sports Center. New Hampshire Wrestling Officials Association is looking for apprentice officials. A minimum of two years participating in the sport of wrestling as a coach or wrestler is required. John Stark Fall Sports Parent/Athlete meeting is scheduled for Monday in the gym at 7 p.m. Following a brief presentation by the athletic director, parents will be sent to various classrooms to meet with coaches. 13th Annual Friendly Kitchen 5K Race & Walk will be held Sept. 6 at NHTI. The race will start at 5:30 p.m. at the NHTI Quad. All proceeds benefit the Friendly Kitchen.
