Registration is underway for fall soccer leagues for ages 4 through sixth grade, as well as NFL Flag Football Leagues. Registration required by Aug. 21 and all leagues have limited space. More information online at: concordparksandrec.com.


N.H. Lightning travel softball league for ages 10U through 18-plus will be holding tryouts for the 2021-22 season this week and next week at Martin Park in Concord. Specific dates and times are available at nhlightning.org or by emailing president@nhlightnight.org.

N.H. Comets softball program is holding tryouts for its 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U teams on Monday-Aug. 5 and Aug. 8. Each team has three tryout dates and all tryouts are held at Sanel Park in Concord. Pre-registration is required to tryout. For more information, visit nhcomets.org.

Hopkinton high school fall sports will start at the following dates, times and locations: football (Aug. 13, 7:30 a.m., Hillsboro-Deering High School), boys’ soccer (Aug. 16, 7:30 a.m. for sophomores, juniors and seniors; freshmen will meet at 5 p.m. on Aug. 16.; optional parent meeting on Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. at the high school pavilion), cross country (Aug. 16, 8:30 a.m., meet at the tennis courts near the high school), girls’ soccer (Aug. 16, 4:30-7 p.m. at Houston Field 3), golf (Aug. 16, Country Club of NH, time TBD), field hockey (Aug. 16, 9-11 a.m., field hockey field by the high school). All middle school sports will start on Aug. 30. More information will be available closer to that date. All athletes must have a physical on file from within the past two years.

Hillsboro-Deering High School fall sports tryouts and practices will begin on the following dates and times: bass fishing (Aug. 9, time and location TBD), football (Aug. 13, 7:30 a.m., HDHS football practice field), cross country (Aug. 16, 8 a.m., Grimes Field), girls’ soccer (Aug. 16, 8 a.m., girls’ soccer field), boys’ soccer (Aug. 16, 9 a.m., boys’ soccer field), girls’ volleyball (Aug. 16, 2 p.m., HDHS gym), golf (Aug. 16, 3:30 p.m., Angus Lea Golf Course). All athletes trying out must have a current physical on file with the school nurse or one ready to turn in to their coach, as well as current Impact Test results. Free physicals will be offered at HDHS the week of Aug. 9 on a first-come, first-serve basis. Impact Tests are also available that week. Athletes must bring their own water.

Officials needed

N.H. Soccer Association is welcoming anyone age 13 and older who would like to become a soccer referee to attend a U.S. Soccer First Time Grassroots Referee Training session this summer. The training is a combination of online modules, classroom (in-person or virtual) and field training sessions. After completion of all modules the individual will be licensed to officiate U.S. Soccer affiliated youth soccer games. Classes close for registration one week prior to the class start date. Apprentices are needed for the New Hampshire Wrestling Officials Association for the 2021-22 season. A minimum of two years participating in the sport of wrestling as an official, coach or wrestler is required. Training will be in September.
