A woman who hitched a ride on an ATV in Dunbarton was injured in a crash on Tuesday caused by an allegedly intoxicated driver, but details surrounding the incident remain unclear.

Tara Gardner, 46 of Weare, had walked to Heavens Gas Station at the intersection of Route 13 and Winslow Road, where she met a group of ATV riders, according to state Fish and Game officials in a press release.

Gardner hitched a ride on a yellow Yamaha Banshee, operated by a man identified only as “Anthony,” a white male, authorities said.

Anthony was driving at a high speed when he struck a ditch, causing the ATV to roll over, the release said.

Gardner, who wasn’t wearing any safety gear, was thrown from the vehicle, sustaining serious but non-life-threatening injuries, the department said.

Authorities say Anthony was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Gardner, who was also heavily intoxicated, was taken by Goffstown EMS from the Goffstown Urgent Care to Catholic Medical Center in Manchester for treatment, according to authorities.

The location of the crash and identity of Anthony remains unknown but it’s suspected he may have also sustained non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
