As part of Hopkinton Reads, New England College professor Inez McDermott will discuss how America artists in the 20th century grappled with war. The program will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Hopkinton Town Library.

Gilford View quilts

The Belknap Mill Quilters Guild will present their 40th annual Harvest of Quilts on Saturday from 10 to 5 p.m. at the Gilford Community Youth Center. There will be more than 200 quilts displayed, a Hoffman special exhibit, appraisals by appointment, a penny sale, attic treasures, door prizes and food. Admission is $7.

Durham Celebrate N.H.female composer

Symphony N.H. and the University of New Hampshire will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of composer Amy Beach. The symphony, led by conductor Jonathan McPhee, will present an anniversary concert of Beach music on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 or $10 for UNH students with I.D. and youth. Concord Spaulding Center hosts fall fundraiser

Spaulding Youth Center announces their annual fundraiser event “Experiencing Childhood,” to benefit our flagship Experiential Challenges Outdoors program on Oct. 11 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn on 172 N. Main St., in Concord. The event is a breakfast fundraiser designed to bring Spaulding Youth Center faculty, staff and supporters together for learning, networking and fun. All proceeds made from fundraiser ticket sales will go directly to enhance Spaulding Youth Center’s EChO program, which gives students the opportunity to experience learning by participating in outdoor adventures. Frank Edelblut, New Hampshire Department of Education Commissioner, is scheduled to attend and present an opening address to event attendees. The event will also include presentations from EChO staff, a demonstration of how adaptive equipment is used to offer access to every child, and an award presentation to long-time supporters. A free workshop, “The 3 R’s – Understanding your role, rights and responsibilities in the N.H. Special Education process” will be held Oct. 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Parent Information Center, 54 Old Suncook Road, Concord. Meredith Eat dinner, conserve land

Moulton Farm in Meredith will host a farm to table dinner 4:30 p.m. Oct. 12 to support conservation efforts. Attendees will enjoy a three-course meal, wine tasting, live music and a farm tour.
