ConcordBrigade lecture

The Brigade Lecture Series continues Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. with “Founders & Patriots: The Society of Cincinnati” presented by Emma Bray, executive director of the American Independence Museum. The Brigade Lecture Series, which focuses on New Hampshire history and culture, is held at the Pierce Manse in Concord and is free and open to the public. Recognized as the nation’s first veterans organization, the Society of the Cincinnati is relatively unknown. With membership only open to male descendants of Revolutionary War officers, which included President Franklin Pierce, they have long been shrouded in secrecy. Bray will lift the veil on this dynamic group and the museum they operate in downtown Exeter. For more information, visit piercemanse.org.

ConcordReady to Learn Fair

The 6th annual Ready to Learn Fair will be held at Rundlett Middle School today at 9 a.m. The event began when Caroline Keane, a para-educator with the Concord School District, was concerned that so many students started school each fall without school supplies. Since then, the RTLF has collected donations and held fundraisers to ensure all students are ready to go back to school. From backpacks to notebooks, eligible students will get what they need. They can pick up shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste/toothbrushes and more. They can even get their back-to-school haircuts!
