AAU basketball

The New England Crusaders U13 team completed a 50-win AAU season with a third-place finish at the AAU girls' basketball nationals last week in Cincinnati. Finishing the tournament at 7-1, the Crusaders defeated the Ohio Hoopsters, 55-53, in the consolation game to finish third in a field of 64. The team, which draws players from all over New Hampshire, won three tournament championships, a state championship, a final four finish at the USJN tournament in Hershey, Penn. (56 teams), and a pool championship at the 14U Gym Rat tournament in Albany, N.Y.

Area players on the Crusaders are Mary Mullen of Loudon and Morgan Church of New London.

Softball results

The Lady Hammerheads ASA softball team won its second game at the USSSA 16U World Series in Orlando, Fla., with a 5-2 victory over the Wichita (Kansas) Aces. Concord's Kelsey Martel was the winning pitcher and helped herself at the plate, going 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Adult baseball

The Concord Royals defeated the Amherst Angels, 11-5. Ron Dunlop went seven innings for the win and had a two-out single to score two. Glenn Heath and Sean Brown pitched scoreless innings in relief. Kevin Reagan had two hits and scored twice, Kevin O'Brien drove in two runs, and Kent Finemore and Scott Dunlop had two-run doubles. Bob Blundell and Bud Larrabie also had hits for the Royals.

Equestrian results

At the 2010 N.H. 4H State Show at the Deerfield Fairgrounds, Terise Cole of Penacook became the 2010 No. 1 ranked state equestrian rider. In addition, she earned the Gray Ghost Memorial Award for the best in fitting in show, the Marcia Lang Memorial Award for highest points earned during the competition, and the Chugger Award for highest points earned in Merrimack County. Cole will lead the 2010 N.H. 4H 17-member delegation of riders at the Eastern States Expositions competition.

Golf tournaments

The Men's City Golf Championship will be played Aug. 21-22 at Beaver Meadow Golf Course and Canterbury Woods Country Club. Players will be placed in flights based upon index, with the highest playable index pegged at 25.0. Eligible players must hold a current sanctioned handicap, be a member of the Concord InterClub host clubs, or a resident of the city of Concord. The Championship flight is played at gross score and other flights are played at net score. Applications are available at area clubs and must be accompanied with the entry fee of $50. Deadline for submission is Aug. 11.

• The annual Heinz Junior Golf tournament will be held Aug. 14-15 at Beaver Meadow Golf Course and Concord Country Club. This event is open to eligible youth players who are of high school grade, a member of an area inter-club golf club, a resident of the city of Concord, or competing on a local high school team. Applications are found at the host clubs noted and any application must be accompanied with an entry fee of $10. Deadline to register is Aug. 4.
