A small oven fire was extinguished at Bread & Chocolate yesterday, closing the South Main Street bakery for a few days.

Concord firefighters responded to 29 S. Main St. about 12:23 p.m., said Battalion Chief Aaron McIntire of the Concord Fire Department. Crumbs and other material in the bakery's large commercial oven had ignited, creating 'a fairly contained fire in the bottom of the oven,' he said.

The fire was quickly extinguished, McIntire said, and no one was hurt.

But, he added, 'We had to throw everything out in the store, because of the smoke.'

Owner Franz Andlinger said the store would be closed for a few days while repairs are made to the oven and smoke damage is cleaned up. He said it may reopen Monday.
