The newest Thai restaurant in Concord is a family affair – or more precisely, a Sister Act.
Asian Thai Kitchen on Pleasant Street, which opened in June, is run by a family of eight sisters.
Four members of the Senasy family, who immigrated to the United States in 1989, have grown into restaurateurs in Maine, owning and operating restaurants in Bar Harbor, Freeport, and Topsham.
Now – driven by a number of New Hampshire customers at their Pine Tree State outposts – two of the sisters are expanding south.
Kaysone Senasy, 53 and the youngest of the eight, has been leading the opening of the Concord location. She came to the U.S. at the age of 17 and said she learned to cook as a child from her parents, who have since passed away.
The family of 10 had no boys. Four of the eight children live in the U.S., three live in Thailand, and one has died.
The Senasys cook traditional Bangkok-style Thai food in big portions with lots of flavor.
Kaysone, who got an apartment in Concord and has been working in the restaurant six days per week, said her favorite dishes to cook are noodles and larb, a flavorful minced-meat salad with lots of herbs.
