The Bishop Brady boys’ tennis team didn’t even exist last year, but the Giants opened their return to varsity action in the best way possible.

Brady opened the 2024 season with a 5-4 victory over Moultonborough at Memorial Field on Tuesday, the program’s first win since April 20, 2022.

Freshman Teddy Yap won 9-7 at No. 1 singles, senior Boden Gendron won 8-5 at No. 4 singles and junior Ben Matseas won 8-4 at No. 6 singles.

With the match tied 3-3 heading into doubles, the No. 2 duo of Alex Pelletier (sophomore) and Gendron, and the No. 3 pair of senior Gabe Zinkin and Matseas both won their matches 8-3 to decide the season opener.

The victory also the first for new head coach Marianne Thebodeau, who also coaches the Bishop Brady girls’ team.
